Recent Work – KIN Culture website

KIN Culture

I recently had the pleasure of working on the design for the online presence for KIN Culture, a faith based organisation where orphans and vulnerable children are given a home and a bright future.

The job, was from beginning to end, such fun. The team from Kin Culture are really amazing and we gelled really well right from the start. The brief was simple – keep it clean and totally different to other charity websites – ie not a site filled with sad photos of poor starving orphans who desperately need your help.

In fact, the client’s feelings where so strong on this, that they decided to do a photo shoot, ensuring the perfect shots that would best suite the website style and the business’s tone and approach. Luckily all the right people where available to help out and after much planning and and organising we where set.

One afternoon of fun and laughter washed with a ton of green powder paint – and voila – the most amazing photos (& video) ever.

Thanks to Kikitography for their crazy photographic skills and to Shoot and Create for their ultra cool “Behind the Scenes” videography.

Going forward I will be working with the team from KIN Culture to take their website to the next level. They are about to start serious work on the actual development of their village and with this the website is expected to help generate necessary publicity and involvement needed in such a mammoth task.

Be sure to check out the KIN Culture website here. Also check out their Facebook page – to see what they are currently up to. This is such an exciting project, perhaps you too can get involved.

Best of luck team!

Blog MakeOver – Marianne Jonker Photography

Happy days – Marianne Jonker Photography’s website went live – another very successful Blog Makeover.

Working with so may amazing photographers really has left me feeling very blessed – flip there are some amazingly talented folks out there and getting to design for some of them really has inspired me in all aspects of my work – Marianne Jonker being one of these super talented peeps. Not only is Marianne a gifted photographer, but she is also a mega Mum and really super sweet gal. I am so lucky to have such uber cool clients!

I had great fun working on Marianne’s website and I am so impressed with how her photos now sit so beautifully within her new online presence – a stunning match.

Below you can see the initial mood board I put together before starting any design work – I do this for all my Blog MakeOver clients, it’s such a fun part of the job as the client is normally very involved in selecting imagery to best describe their style – beside who can resist a good afternoon spent in Pinterest land.

Are you interested in giving your much loved blog or website a little MakeOver? Why not give me a shout and lets make it happen. Check out my portfolio for more examples of work I have done

My New Portfolio goes live

Joanne Reidy | Digital Designer

Putting together my portfolio has always been a laborious job and one that invariably gets put off – I suppose it comes down to making the time to work on a job that won’t immediately pay. But sometimes, investing in one’s self is the only way to actually make money. So determined to get my act together I embarked on updating my online presence – no easy task – the portfolio gods seemed to be against me from the start. Lots of things kept creeping in, little jobs that needed tweaking and admin that needed doing (you know the story) Then, out of nowhere, my dear laptop decided Christmas holidays where just too far away and perhaps taking a little unscheduled break NOW would be lovely (…panic!)

I was devastated – potentially I had lost a bunch of documents… eek! This meant that my baby had to go in for a very expensive data recovery procedure resulting in three unplanned days without a laptop. IMPOSSIBLE!

I nervously waited for news and, as luck would have it, the lost documents where not retrievable. How frustrating. Luckily I had backups, but these where outdated and some where in fact lost entirely. Yikes, all of this fuss could have been avoided had I been doing regular backups to Time Machine. Well I suppose hind sight is 20/20 (lesson learnt!).

Anyhow, while my laptop was in for repairs, I was faced with unthinkable amounts of “internetlessness”. What would I do without my daily dose of Pinterest? Surely the moon would spin out of its orbit and come crashing into my house? Thank goodness for my trusty iPad, I made it through the 3 days and lived to tell the tale.

Funny how working 90% of my time on a computer – when faced with no laptop I almost didn’t know what to do with my time. Luckily I had a massive commission of a hundred Beasty Brooches (more about this exciting job to come) which needed finishing off and packaging, so I had no excuse for laziness and sadly could not spend my laptop’s recovery time languishing in the sun, Pinning things (damn it!)

Well, after being re-united with my baby, I quickly got back into my portfolio re-design and I am happy to say that my new “One Page” portfolio went live just last week – check it out.

This means I am officially open and ready for business. If you are looking for a freelance web designer, then I am your gal. Also if you are desperately needing to spruce up your blog, then give me a shout – I would love to hear from you.
